April 2, 1982
Several thousand troops from Argentina seized the disputed Falkland Islands,
located in the south Atlantic, from Britain. Britain took the islands
back that following June.
April 12, 1861
The American Civil War began as Confederate forces fired on Fort Sumter
in South Carolina.
April 26, 1986
The world's worst nuclear accident took place at the Chernobyl plant
in the Ukraine. An explosion and fire killed thirty-one people and sent
radioactivity into the atmosphere.
