ASSIGNMENT: THE WORLD NAMES CARLET CLEARE INTERIM HOST

Rochester, New York (December 8, 2009) – Teej Jenkins, the host of Assignment: The World (ATW), WXXI’s national instructional television program that delivers news and current events to 4th through 8th graders, has announced that she will be on maternity leave January 1, 2010 through March 2010. Carlet Cleare, a reporter/producer for WXXI’s Center for Public Affairs, will serve as interim host while Jenkins is on leave. Meet the Staff

As a reporter/producer, Cleare produces news stories for AM 1370, and reports for WXXI-TV’s public affairs program, Need to Know. Prior to joining WXXI, she worked at RNews, now YNN, as a Desk Assistant. Cleare holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications/Journalism from St. John Fisher College.

Jenkins has been host of ATW since September 2007. She also serves as WXXI’s Manager/Producer of City 12, a television channel that provides city residents with interesting, informative and entertaining programs.

ATW is the nation's longest-running classroom program, produced by WXXI Public Broadcasting in conjunction with The Associated Press. Each week, the program brings the top news stories from around the globe, guiding students through complex issues in a safe environment. ATW airs on WXXI-TV (DT21.1/cable1011/cable11) on Thursdays and Fridays at 6 a.m. throughout the school year, and on more than 90 public television stations across the country. The program is also streamed on the Web. ATW is taped by schools and used in classrooms across the country. The program’s length is 15 minutes, designed to fit into the structure of a classroom period. The program is distributed nationally by the Agency for Instructional Technology in Bloomington, IN (www.ait.net).
