Issue Question: Prisoners voting
With 2012 being an election year candidates are counting every vote. However, in the United States not all people have the right to vote. Some states have laws against people in prison voting. Currently, the states of Vermont and Maine allow people to vote while they are in prison. Some think this is a bad idea. Criminals are sentenced to prison because they broke a law or laws in some way or another. This alone shows they care little for the wellbeing of society and cannot be trusted to help make decisions that impact other citizens.Others disagree. They feel it is discriminatory to deny someone the right to vote simply because they made a bad decision. Also, there are millions of prisoners in the U.S and denying them the right to vote leaves a large section of the U.S. with no voice. We want to know what you think, “Should people in prison have the right to vote?”
